Glen Cove Summer Youth Employment Program – Teens Wanted

Interested Teens ages 16-18 Encouraged to Attend March 4 Meeting

Glen Cove, NY, February 14, 2019…For over 30 years, the City of Glen Cove Youth Bureau has provided summer employment opportunities for Glen Cove residents between the ages 14-22 years old.  Over that time frame the Youth Bureau has expanded their Summer Youth Employee Program (SYEP) into a dynamic three-tier job readiness/skills development initiative.  The three tiers include the Green Team for teens ages 14-15, a Summer Internship program for 16-18 year olds and an Assistant and Supervisor program for program alumni up to 22 years of age.

Summer Youth Internship Program Meeting Scheduled For March 4

The SYEP is designed to provide High School students ages 16-18 years old with transferable skills through workshops and leadership activities that focus on time management, goal setting, resume writing, interview preparation and business etiquette. Training workshops are held one evening a week during the months of March, April and May.  Then eligible candidates can apply for summer internship positions with local business partners in June.  Only 10 internship positions will be available and up to 20 trainees will be accepted. “The SYEP Internship Program aims to provide teens with the tools necessary to succeed in Long Island’s competitive job market and we hope our students will take full advantage of this outstanding program,” said Mayor Tim Tenke.

To learn more about the internship program students are invited to attend the SYEP Internship kick-off meeting on Monday, March 4th at 7:00 pm at the Glen Cove Youth Center, 128B Glen Street (enter in the rear of the building).    Teens must sign up to attend the meeting by March 1, 2019 by emailing program coordinator Jacki Yonick at [email protected] or by calling the Youth Bureau at (516) 671-4600.
