Week 7 lacrosse action took place last weekend with the club hosting home games for all of their boys’ teams. The Shore Rd. fields were abuzz with action as the K-1 ‘Wee Knights’ matched up against Bellmore/Merrick for the 2nd time this season and after the Knights worked them over the first game, it appeared their opponent brought a few ringers along for this game. Glen Cove was led by Cole Martinez who did a great job leading the team in ground balls and clearing the ball. Jack Fugazy and Tommy Scagliola netted goals for Glen Cove, the first of their young careers! Dylan Shuman stood tall between the pipes and kept the Wee Knights in the game. The coaches are happy to see improvement in all facets of the young teams’ game. The season finale for the Wee Knights has them returning to play Cold Spring Harbor on their home turf.
The 5th and 6th grade ‘Late Knights’ were featured on the main field against an equally matched opponent from Hempstead. The Knights played from behind most of the game but never gave up as they were able to rally and tie Hempstead with a late 4th quarter bouncer from Luciano Blanco, his 2nd goal of the game. Hats were off for Jax Giordano who netted 3 goals in the contest. Keeping the Knights within striking distance was Kenny Steck, playing his best game of the season to date. The Late Knights finish up their season with one final home game against Oyster Bay this Sunday starting at 10:30.
AII eyes were focused on the main field as the unbeaten 3rd & 4th grade ‘Mid Knights’ were ready to take to the field. With their first opponent, Malverne, backing out during the week, the Knights were able to find a late replacement team from Bellmore/Merrick that gave them a run for their money. Rather than accepting a forfeit for a win, the Mid Knights were facing a team that plays up a division which they were unaware of going into the game. But just like any other game, the Mid Knights were up for the challenge. They took a lead going into the 2nd half with 2 goals a piece coming from Nico Puspurica and Giovanni Ramos. Puspurica also added an assist on Gavin O’Brien’s first goal of the season. The 2nd half of the game featured a lot of defense and once again penalties hurt the Knights as the Bellmore/Merrick 4th grade team rallied to tie the score late in the game. Goaltender Kayne Steck remained solid as he has all season recording 7 saves in the game. Although they did not come out of the game with a win, they did walk away still unbeaten and ready to finish off their incredible season with an away game in East Meadow on Sunday.
