The Glen Cove Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency charged with ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Led by Chief of the Department Chief Christ Ortiz and Deputy Chief Pietro "Peter" DiMaggio, the City of Glen Cove Police Department is the sole law enforcement agency serving the Glen Cove community.
The Department currently consists of 51 sworn members, spanning the ranks from Patrol Officer to Chief of Police. Its core mission is to protect and serve the City of Glen Cove’s diverse citizenry through the prompt, courteous, efficient, and effective delivery of police services.
A central hallmark of the Department is fostering meaningful partnerships with the community it serves. To achieve this, the Department employs a community policing strategy as its guiding philosophy, emphasizing community outreach, problem solving, collaboration, and a strong commitment to quality of life.
Building on the strong foundation established under former Chief William Whitton, the Glen Cove Police Department continues to strengthen its capacity to serve the community, maintaining its reputation as one of the premier law enforcement agencies in New York State and helping keep Glen Cove among the nation’s “Top 100 Safest Cities.”
