The Glen Cove Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency charged with ensuring the safety and security of all residents. The City of Glen Cove Police Department is the only law enforcement agency that serves the community of Glen Cove. The police department currently has 51 sworn members spanning the ranks from Patrol Officer to Chief of Police. The core mission of the Department is to protect and serve the diverse citizenry of the City of Glen Cove through the prompt, courteous, efficient, and effective delivery of police services. A central hallmark of the Department is fostering meaningful partnerships with the communities it serves. To accomplish this, the Department employs a community policing strategy as our guiding philosophy. The main tenets of this strategy include community outreach, problem solving, meaningful partnerships, and a commitment to quality of life for our communities. Under the leadership and guidance of Chief William Whitton, the Glen Cove Police Department has significantly improved its capacity to serve the community making it one of the premiere law enforcement agencies in the State and helping to make Glen Cove one of the nation’s “Top 100 Safest Cities”.
The Glen Cove Police Department submits the plan below, pursuant to New York State Executive Order 203. This plan was developed after a comprehensive review of police force deployments, strategies, polices, procedures and practices through consultation with community stakeholders. This plan will enable the Glen Cove Police Department to continue its robust community-oriented policing strategies while working towards further reducing racial disparities in policing. Meaningful reform will only be accomplished if our residents take the time to review this plan and email any suggestions, comments, or recommendations to us for consideration to [email protected]
