Glen Cove Tree Commission
The Glen Cove Tree Commission is dedicated to the preservation, protection, and responsible management of the city’s trees. Trees play a crucial role in enhancing our environment, providing shade, improving air quality, and contributing to the natural beauty of Glen Cove. The Commission ensures responsible tree management through careful review and regulation of tree removal and development projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Tree Commission has jurisdiction over tree removal and development-related tree preservation efforts in Glen Cove, ensuring that our city’s natural beauty and ecological balance are maintained. Its key responsibilities include:
- Tree Removal Permits: The Commission reviews and grants or denies permits for the removal of nonspecimen trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of eight inches or greater.
- Specimen Tree Protection: Any specimen trees within the City of Glen Cove require a permit for removal, subject to Commission approval.
- Site Plan & Subdivision Review: The Commission provides oversight and recommendations on site plans and subdivision applications to promote responsible tree preservation in development projects.
By working together to preserve and protect our trees, we can maintain the beauty and environmental health of Glen Cove for generations to come.
