Friday Alert: Stay Safe During Extreme Heat

With extreme heat forecasted for Friday, the City of Glen Cove is encouraging all residents—especially older adults, young children, and those with underlying health conditions—to take precautions to stay safe and cool.

Heat Safety Tips:

• Stay in the shade whenever possible

• Use a fan or air conditioner

• Stay hydrated—drink plenty of water

• Limit time outdoors during peak heat hours

• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle—car interiors can heat up rapidly and become deadly within minutes

Know the Symptoms of Heat Stroke:

• Unusually heavy sweating

• Shortness of breath

• Dizziness or confusion

If you or someone around you shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

Please note: While Glen Cove’s public beaches are open for swimming daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, thunderstorms are possible on Friday, and conditions may not be safe. Always follow lifeguard instructions and posted signage regarding beach closures or lightning precautions.

Please check on family, friends, and neighbors—especially the elderly—during periods of extreme heat.
